Wild and Free Photoshoot

“Let’s be wildflowers, let our souls be scattered in the wind. Let us grow wild and free, tall and brave, in the places that we dream, in the places where our longings are filled. Let us grow between the cracks of brokenness and we will make everything beautiful.”

-Gaby Compres

I walk the streets of Richmond

alley way junking

Alleyway walking is one of my favorite things to do in the city. People throw away all kinds of treasures! I have found metal bases that I’ve turned into tables. I have a found free lumber to use on projects, metal cabinet, rusty barrel rings I turned into garden orbs, bar stools, an antique oak claw foot table, an old porch swing, a dresser, wicker chairs and an old theatre chair just to name a few of my favorites! I take them home, clean them up and give them a new life. A life that they wouldn’t have had if I hadn’t saved them from trash pickup day! It really is the ultimate recycle!

I’m A VENDOR!

Gracies Spring Market

So excited to be a part of Gracie’s Outdoor Spring Market formally the Vintage Home Market) this Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 9am-3pm. Several other amazing vendors will be joining me and I will have the camper there as well. It’s going to be a beautiful day and I can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces!

Salvaged lath from a house built in 1840!

I was so excited when my friend invited me to come see the victorian farmhouse she is renovating, which was originally built in 1840! The renovation process was underway when I arrived and they had ripped out a ton of the lath from the plaster walls. My creative wheels immediately started to spin! She told me to take as much as I wanted so I loaded a bunch of it in the van and now I’m getting busy! I have already made some gates – these would be so cute just hanging or leaning on a wall. Or even on a mantle! Trash to treasure ya’ll!

I can’t wait to see how my friend transforms this beautiful house. If only those walls could talk!

Porch Project at the Hiner Farm

I spent a week at the Hiner Farm up in the Mountains for some much needed off-grid time! I sanded and re-painted the front porch while I was there – being the worker-bee that I am! It was a lot of work, but it felt good to be productive! That porch holds so many memories and I want to keep making great memories on it so I was so happy to fix it up!

Avo Bennies

That’s what’s for breakfast! This is my favorite breakfast – and not just while camping! Here’s what you need and how to make it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 piece of bread
  • Butter
  • 1 avocado
  • Garlic hummus
  • Fresh arugula
  • crushed red pepper
  • Ham (or prosciutto)
  • Pico de Gallo
  • Goat cheese
  • Fresh fruit

Butter and toast the bread in a pan. Sizzle up the ham in the same pan. Cook the egg over-easy. Smear toast with garlic hummus and avocado. Sprinkle crushed red pepper. Add the cooked egg. Top with pico, goat cheese and fresh arugula. Enjoy with a side of fresh fruit!

Campfire Nachos

This is one of my go-to camping recipes! It’s easy, sharable and such a crowd pleaser!

  • Coconut Oil – this is perfect to use over an open fire because unlike olive oil, it has a higher smoke point and can be cooked at higher temperatures without the risk of burning your food!
  • Chips
  • Organic canned corn and black beans (rinsed) – remember to bring that can opener and the strainer!
  • Salsa or Pico de Galo – Love this as an easy alternative to chopping tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, etc
  • Shredded cheddar or Mexican Blend Cheese
  • Don’t forget the sour cream!
  • Add some Cilantro if you wish too.

65 cents richer

How much money needs to be laying on the ground to make you stop and pick it up?

I’m the girl that stops to pick up a penny! Today I found 65 cents in front of the Walgreens entrance. I immediately stopped and picked it up. And then I wondered… how many people saw it and just keep going? What makes me different from them? Is it my humble upbringing? My thrifty nature? My love for treasure hunting? My inner child? Maybe it’s all of the above…

All I know is that most of the time I feel like I am living in an entirely different world than everybody else. I call it Libbie La La Land. And I invite you all to visit.

Homework assignment – I encourage you all to find your inner child – I don’t care how fancy or important you are now. Because I bet you 65 cents you would have picked up those coins when you were 8 years old! Let’s all just stop for a second. Look around. Admire a beautiful flower or a full moon! I LOVE the moon! Dance. Jump in mud puddles. When did we become so busy and stressed out that we don’t even pick up FREE money on the ground?

All I know is that I am 65 cents richer today.

Nobody Cares, Work Harder

Are you guys ready to get inspired? Then go buy this book written by my talented friend, Emily Hubbard! Emily owns the cutest vintage/handmade boutique in town – called One Rose Decor. I just did a pop up shop at her Spring Open House and let me tell you – she has the best loyal customers! We had a blast and I was so excited to purchase her book. I didn’t even get to page 25 and I already wanted to quit my part-time job and just go full speed ahead with Rusticity!

The book has such a great title – Nobody Cares, Work Harder. Isn’t this the truth?! Everyone, including me, always talks about their dreams and goals and ends the conversation with any excuse to explain why they aren’t moving forward with them. Literally, nobody cares! And this book explains how “its time to stop listening to our doubtful self-sabotaging thoughts and start wiping the dust off our confidence.” She shares her own personal failures and successes as she walks you through her favorite 14 traits to unlocking your full potential. Her stories are so relatable and self-deprecating – you will feel like you know her and you will want to keep reading!

Just do yourself a favor and go to One Rose Decor to buy this book (and maybe a chippy salvaged mantle or handmade sign)! Tell her I sent ya 🙂
